School Council

The school council works to make improvements to the school and the way things are done at BIGS. They look for things that could be better in the school and discuss how to change them.
School councillors are elected every year by the pupils. Two councillors are voted in from each class.

The minutes are the notes that are taken at the meetings; they explain what was said and what will happen next. The names of the class representatives that attended the meeting are also mentioned.

What school council representatives must do

Councillors are expected to:

  • Speak on behalf of the rest of their class
  • Make important decisions with regards to the school
  • Attend regular meetings and make time to do project work on behalf of the council
  • Take everyone’s comments seriously
  • Report back to their class all of the decisions that the council makes

The perfect school council representative

The kind of person a councillor should be is someone who:

  • Is approachable; that is someone that other people feel comfortable coming up to and talking to
  • Is cheerful and enthusiastic
  • Gets along well with people
  • Has good concentration skills
  • Is responsible
  • Is helpful
  • Is a good listener (pays attention to the person who is talking)
  • Is a good explainer
